Commencing in September each year, the GRP is a two year program consisting of four rotations across various teams at RBC I&TS. The program is designed to help you gain a holistic understanding of our Investor Services (IS) business through rotational specific product and technical courses, as well as training to enhance your professional skills.

Your experiences will provide the perfect foundation from which to springboard your career.

Over the course of the program, you will be placed in four different IS business departments for a duration of six months each.

Possible placement teams include:

  • Product & Client Experience
  • Operations (Fund Accounting, Transaction Management, Client Reporting, Shareholder Services)
  • Global Client Coverage (Sales)
  • Operational Risk

Opportunities are aligned to:

  • Project Management

After a series of rotations and a robust training and development schedule, you will join a permanent department within one of our teams, taking into account your preferred business areas and our business needs.

The Graduate Rotational Program (GRP) is open to recent graduates from all university degree disciplines who can demonstrate the following:

Do I need to be studying accounting, business or finance?

No, we welcome student applications from all degree disciplines. Innovation and progress stems from diversity of thought, background and experience. We look for candidates who are curious, willing to learn, analytical, and not afraid to bring new ideas to the table. However, we do expect you to have an interest in business operations and the financial industry.

From a technical knowledge perspective, our training program is designed to aid your development in order for you to be successful in your role.

What are the language skills required to join the Program?

As English is the business language used across all RBC offices worldwide, you need to be able to speak a fluent level of English to apply for our programs. We also require strong written communication skills. In all regions, additional language proficiency is welcome, but not necessary.

Do I need relevant work experience to apply?

No, we do not expect you to have prior relevant work experience. We believe you will have gained transferable skills from your studies or previous experiences, professional or otherwise, which you can relate to our Programs. In your application, please focus on examples where you have demonstrated strong communication skills, leadership, innovation, initiative and/or an interest in helping others and engaging in your broader community.

Do I need to be hired for the Summer Internship Program if I want to join the Graduate Rotational Program?

The Summer Internship Program is a key talent pipeline for the Graduate Rotational Program (GRP) each year, particularly in Canada, and the UK.

However, as our talent needs continue to evolve, so will our need to consider talent from outside our Internship Programs. Keep an eye on our website each from January to April each year to review our available positions.

What if I am studying abroad when I apply?

Studying abroad does not prevent you from applying to our Programs. Please make sure to let us know this when you are applying online, specifying the dates of your experience and where you will be.

It is a requirement that you physically attend the assessment centre held in the region you have applied for. This is mandatory for all candidates, as we feel it is important for you to familiarize yourself with your potential future work environment and meet the colleagues and managers you might be working with. If you are unable to attend the assessment centre, we will not arrange for an alternative form of assessment.

Do you hire post-graduates/MBAs?

We accept applications from Masters students for our programs in the UK and Ireland. Only students pursuing undergraduate programs are eligible for our Programs in Canada.

Do you accept applications from first or second year students for the Summer Internship Program?

While we focus on penultimate year students for the Summer Internship Program, students in their second year of study may be considered if they prove to have a strong application.

Do you recruit students who require a work permit/visa?

RBC hires students who are eligible to work in the country for which they are applying.

We have developed a bespoke applicant system designed to:

  • Provide us with an objective assessment of the competencies deemed essential for success within Investor & Treasury Services
  • Provide you with further understanding of the specifics of the role and business in the early stages of the recruitment process

How long does the recruitment process take?

The entire process can take between four to seven weeks from application to offer. This may be extended when holiday closures or busy periods occur and may be extended if you apply earlier in the process as we typically run one assessment centre per region.

Can I apply to more than one region?

We recommend that you only apply to one role and one region per year. However, if you have a strong interest in a second location, possess the required language skills and are eligible to work in that region, please note this in your application.

How can I differentiate my application?

We are looking for candidates who are curious, eager to learn and who have a genuine interest in RBC and our industry, ready to bring a fresh and innovative lens to the organization. Avoid copying and pasting Information from our website or brochures in your application. Take this as an opportunity to provide us with insight on your interests and motivations.

What is the best way to go about preparing for an interview or the Assessment Centre?

The interview process is an opportunity for you to get further insight into our organization, the program experience and the roles we offer our interns and graduates. In order to make the most of the experience, it is important to come prepared. Be in a position to articulate what it is about our business that interests you. Know what is happening in the financial industry, or come with your questions on what further insight you hope to gain.

It is also an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand what motivates you. As such, the most important thing is to be yourself! Our interviews are behavioural, so have specific examples of when you have demonstrated key behaviours.
